It's all about honing the skill.
I am not a romance or erotica writer - my larger projects are in the genre of fantasy fiction. However, most romantic or provocative scenes in sf/f tend to be... well, quite terrible.
More importantly, though... it is through intimacy and emotion that powerful statements can be made. A greater sense of characterization can be made when people are most vulnerable, are most angsted - when they are elementally naked. You can say the most in the least amount of words when the characters are exposed.
While I tinker with tempo and word play, come escape with me. Through these trials and experiments and dabblings, I measure my success by how well I have provoked you.
